All About the team at Geelong Fire


Here at GFS, we employ our own designers, sprinkler fitters, electrical technicians and service technicians. Currently Geelong Fire Services has working in the field;

  • 45 Qualified Sprinkler Fitters
  • 12 Sprinkler Apprentices
  • 5 Qualified Fire Alarm Technicians
  • 1 Electrical Apprentice
  • 5 service technicians
  • 4 Fire services designers
  • All with constant support provided by our project and general managers.


  • All employees are covered by the relevant Union, Workcover, Coinvest LSL, Redundancy Scheme and Superannuation funds.
  • GFS is covered by Professional Indemnity insurance
  • Geelong Fire Services employee’s are employed under applicable code compliant Fair work Australia approved EBA agreements
  • GFS is Covered by Broadform Public Liability Insurance to $20,000,000.00
  • As per EBA, GFS staff are fully insured within Workcover guidelines.




Ewan Downes  is a Director of Geelong Fire Services. Ewan has over 25 years’ experience in fire protection services and has recently returned to Victoria. Ewan has been a Director 12 years, with a  trade background he has worked on and delivered on large commercial and industrial projects across Australia.

Operations Manager

Dave Smith  transferred from Firesafe Group to Geelong Fire Services in 2017. Dave has 16yrs fire industry experience, 5yrs in the Australian fire industry working in WA. I have worked in design, project estimating an project management roles over the past 16 years..

Construction Manager

Simon Jones  joined Geelong Fire Services in 2017 as Construction Manager, With over 20 years’ experience in the Fire Protection Industry, Simon has worked in many sectors including commercial and industrial, residential, transportation (ports, automotive), aged care, food and beverage, fit-out (retail and clubs) and the arts. Simon has worked in the United Kingdom and Australia on high profile, prestigious and iconic projects.

  General Manager

Tony Mazzarella  joined the Geelong Fire Services as General Manager in 2016. Tony has 15 years' experience in finance and management in the construction industry. Recently relocated back to Victoria Tony will coordinate and oversee the finance, systems, human resources and administration of GFS to ensure continuous improvement and growth.

Office Manager

Emma Christie supports the Managing Director in the day to day running of the business, Emma recently relocated to Torquay with her young family and is looking forward to cementing a career in the Fire Protection industry.

Sprinkler/Service Project Managers

Geelong Fire recently expanded in growth and now has the need for two Sprinkler Project Managers.
Ash Russell will be based in Geelong and surrounding areas and will manage our Sprinkler and Service Projects for this region. Ash has years of on-site experience and with this wealth of knowledge will be a great asset to our business. 

Simon Curwood will be managing Melbourne projects and can add to his portfolio recent projects such as Royal Eye and Ear Hospital refurbishment, Stage 4 Parkville and I'm sure many more incredible construction projects as Geelong Fire Services continues to grow. 

Testing Division Manager

Scott Bushby has recently joined the team at Geelong Fire Services, Scott has over 20 years’ experience in the fire industry.

Electrical Division Manager

Ravitesh Chaudhary has been with GFS for over 12 months and has over 7 years’ experience in fire industry. Ravitesh has knowledge in all areas of fire alarms and is competent on programming of all major fire indicator panels.

Fire Services Design Team

Marcelo (Mars) Escobar recently joined GFS as Senior Fire Services Engineer and Designer with over 20 years experience in the Fire industry he leads a strong team of engineers, designers and draftsmen. Mars brings along his knowledge and experience to ensure solid engineering solutions and efficiencies to our projects and management team. 

Andrew Perrett is an integral part of our Design Team. He offers support to Project Managers and Document Controls all incoming and outgoing Project correspondence. Andrew is responsible for creating Project Manuals and assists with smaller design works such as Evacuation Maps.

Allister Mickan has recently joined as part of the growing design team. He brings as a draftsman within both consulting and contracting engineering firms. His experience includes sprinkler system layouts, fire booster assemblies, emergency warning systems, internal hydrants and smoke detection layouts.

Maya Marabila is our Fire Services Drafter and Designer. Maya has been working in the building services industry and has experience in Australia and internationally. Experience includes includes sprinkler system layouts,  warning systems, internal hydrants and smoke detection layouts. 

Yen Lee is our student of Architecture who has recently joined Geelong Fire Services. Yen is assisting the team with the intention to grow her skillset and become a designer as she continues her studies. Geelong Fire Services welcomes the relationships with local universities and encourages architecture and engineering students to develop their skills into the fire services industry.


Receptionist / Accounts Payable / Purchasing

Jayne Moller has been with GFS for 10 years. Jayne has had many roles within our organisation and is the first point of contact for our business. These roles include procurement, accounts, vehicle maintenance, reception just to name a few.

Shazia Chaudhary started in 2017 in an accounting support role. Shazia is responsible for Accounts receivable and other accounting and administration duties.
